Whittier Ward

The Whittier Ward in Salt Lake City looks fairly unassuming on the outside, but it has a lot of features I really like. It will be our focus for the next few posts. The amusement hall (on the right) was built in the 1920s; the chapel (on the left) came later in 1936. The window on the front of the chapel is a beautiful stained glass window that we'll also highlight.

  1. Certainly has changed over the years. The Ward housed Browning and Whittier Wards. The entry columns weren't there, the white framing I don't recall being there. No Amercan flag, mostly, no parking in the cul-de-sac. Seemed so ordinary in the 60s. Our family moved to Utah when I was 3...I was blessed as as a 3 year old rather than an infant. I was Baptized at the Tabernacle at 8 years old as a new member, there were no fonts in Wardhouses back then. I attended Whittier Ward and Whittier Elementary School, the school is/was just out of the frame here. To the right, the field belonging to my school was- and my school, just beyond that. I lived just across the street from Whittier Ward, at 1414 So. 2nd East. My home has since been demolished, and an apartment building or two, have been put in it's place. Oh, to go back in time. What an amazing and joyful area and time I grew up in.
