Huntington Park Ward: Stained Glass Details

Circular windows at the front of the chapel are just not common for the LDS Church, and this is the only one I'm aware of that is a rose window (with patterns that mimic the outward-facing petals of a rose). It is a beautiful window!

Other windows line both sides of the chapel.

I was also surprised by the stained glass windows I found in the cultural hall. I'll show those in my next post.

  1. The Cultural Hall was built as the Los Angeles Stake Tabernacle. It was used for stake conferences and cultural events even having a pipe organ. The U shaped courtyard featured a two story north side containing stake offices and some classrooms. There was an elegant room on the south that was known as the stake lounge and hosted many parties. The stake tabernacle was built connecting to the already existing Huntington Park Ward building. The building came about because of the formation of the Hollywood Stake from the north part of the Los Angeles Stake. The stained glass in the cultural hall is a
    hint of it's former use.
The Hollywood Stake had the Wilshire Ward chapel which was also their tabernacle. There is an excellent book, MORE FAITH THAN FEAR, by Chad Orton which is history of the Los Angeles stake. It includes a
great deal of information on the early buildings.
