I will gather details as they become available. For details on the interior of the Mesa Temple, see here. For a post on changes I would like to see in the renovation, see here. The main changes I would like to see would be a full restoration of the murals (although large parts would just need to be redone entirely) and the restoration of progression (now possible due to a reduction in the temple district size, thanks to new temples in Phoenix, Gilbert, and other areas). I'm sure existing murals will be carefully preserved, as will the temple's current architecture. It's exciting to see what may happen!
WOW! A two-year time period! They have a LOT of things planned! I could make a list of things they could be doing. I would be thrilled if it was restored to a progressive Endowment presentation! If they did restoration work, I would definitely have to spend money and visit again!
ReplyDeleteI think we can be assured that they'll at least be sensitive to the original architecture that remains, but this is a good chance for the Church to do what it did in the Laie Hawaii and Los Angeles California temples--bring back the original progression. Sessions would go from every 30 minutes to every 40 minutes, but I think it's worth it!
DeleteOne advantage that the temples in Laie and Los Angeles had is that they both still had their murals. The Church would have to recreate the old murals or commission new ones to do an equal job to Mesa. It would be nice.
DeleteThey would; fortunately, we have enough photographs and descriptions that I think it could be done fairly accurately, matching the content and style of the original murals. Fingers crossed...

DeleteHere's a lot of "probably": No doubt the utilities (water, electricity, air conditioning) are being modernized. Safety devices (alarms; ceiling sprinklers) are undoubtedly being modernized. Probably a new elevator. Will probably be making the building ADA compatible. As the building is 90 years old, the foundations are probably being strengthened, and if they are doing that then they are also probably bringing the whole building up to current codes; that's what they've been doing with a lot of the older temples. They will probably be going over the exterior for broken or defective tiles to replace any that need replacing. It will be exciting to read as more news is released just what all is being done.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure that's 90% of the renovation right there. Fortunately, recent renovations (like Idaho Falls) show that they can fit historic buildings to modern codes and standards fairly well!
