Mink Creek Ward

Mink Creek is a small farming community northeast of Preston, Idaho. It has a nice chapel that was built in 1928-1929.

The building has been more or less preserved.

The main changes are the doors.

It's a beautiful chapel in a gorgeous setting. This is the Church's backyard: a small cemetery, and pastures.

The building was closed when I visited, but I was able to get interior pictures that I'll post next.

    1. YouTube the healing sanctuary building. It talks a bit about an old LDS building being renovated for a holistic medical office/sanctuary.

    4. L. Chris Jones, thanks for the updates! I'd heard that the building was to be renovated but didn't know the details; this fills me in on everything. Thanks!

  2. There were more than just changes to the doors. The entryway inside was all redone, the pulpit in the chapel was moved to what was the back of the chapel so the mural wasn't the focus, making the original chapel entrance a fire exit (looks funny from the inside), and there was an addition to the back of the building of a new Relief Society room, bathrooms, and new bishop's office. It is at the new rear door that you can get the only cell service on the chapel; property -- if you point your phone in the right direction. My mother grew up in Mink Creek, and relatives there told me that they fought hard for the preservation of the building that their grandparents had built by hand and are mostly happy and grateful for the preservation that has been done. One feature I like in it as that the two long walls of the Cultural Hall have long built-in benches along them -- one long bench on each of the two long walls. There's no setting up chairs for a dance or other non-dinner functions. My mother said they were wonderful for dances.

    1. I'd guessed there were more changes--I just wasn't able to get inside to see them. I did know about the chapel switching directions though. That ends up being more common in renovations than I would have expected.

I'm really glad the building has been preserved, too. It's in such a remote area that it almost feels like going back in time!

  3. My great Grandfather Adelbert Cutler Henderson was the architect and builder of this building. He also build the Preston 6th Ward Chapel, Clifton ID Chapel, Mapleton Idaho Chapel, 2nd ward chapel and several homes and businesses from Kaysville, Brigham City and Afton WY

    2. I see this blog is a few years old so hopefully this comment finds someone. I have researched Adelbert Henderson extensively and admire him so much. He gave to his community and beyond selflessly for his entire life. I actually grew up in a home he designed and built in Clifton. I have portions of a journal of sorts written by a man Adelbert hired to help paint the Mink Creek chapel. I would love to collaborate with family members or others who also have interest in the incredible man - Adelbert Cutler Henderson.

  4. Thank you so much for sharing this! I served my mission in the Ogden mission and this was actually part of my last area. I loved going to this ward building, such good people and a lovely chapel.
