The chapel originally had two murals, painted by local member and farmer Reid Parkinson. The first one is very unusual, showing Christ at His Second Coming. It was commissioned by a member and painted around 1950.
This type of mural is very unusual; most paintings in chapels (when that was allowed, before 1980) were not this abstract. Christ appears stern in this painting, surrounded by the signs of His coming. Joseph Smith, Brigham Young, and others accompany Him; the wicked are burning in His presence.
In speaking with members of the ward, the children remember this painting quite vividly. I can see why.
10 years later, the same member painted a second mural for the chapel which accompanied the first, showing the appearance of Christ in the Kirtland Temple.
Both murals have been returned to the tabernacle from the family, and are located there today.
