Spanish Fork 1st Ward

Located on center street in Spanish Fork, the original first ward building was demolished and this iteration built in 1932. It looks like a mismatch now, especially on the interior.

The original chapel space has been heavily remodeled into classrooms and the Relief Society room. There is a new chapel built on the back. This is common for older buildings--wards are larger now than they used to be.

The exterior has preserved some lovely details:

Torrey Ward

Torrey is one of a number of small towns in Sevier County, near Capitol Reef National Park. Its original church & schoolhouse log building was constructed in 1898.

The building was used as a school until 1917, and as a chapel until 1928. In the 1980s, the Church told the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers organization that they could have the building if they moved it off Church property, and they did so.

It's one of the few examples of log buildings from that era that are still standing.
